Seriously Social

Check out these stats on web usage during the recently concluded US Presidential Campaign!

Obama could wrap around McCain at least 380 times if this election was based on the online groundswell alone!

Social media has found its way into the elections.

What does this mean?

I can tell you what it doesn't mean.

  1. It doesn't guarantee that a political candidate will always win an election as long as he/ she has the most following. It does by default prove to be true that the most believable candidate will always attract the most followers - wisdom of the crowds.
  2. It doesn't abdicate public figures from need to be credible communicators and doers. Trust will never go out of style.
  3. It wasn't a coincidence or a one-off issue! The world is increasingly more wise to the power of social media. Even my grand-dad, is on Facebook (not that you old or anything grand-dad)!
  4. It doesn't' mean that traditional media channels have lost their purpose. Rather there is a trend of media convergence of the old and new media and it's an exciting time to get involved in this marriage.
Social media is here to stay. Now all you have to do is make the pledge as a great communicator to be even greater by understanding the metrics of this new media.
