In My Lifetime!

I know I took my time in posting on this but yea...HE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Previously I all but predicted this win by comparing the Internet leg of Obama's campaign with that of the DLP.

Personally I could not see how he could lose unless it was stolen from the Democrats under the table.

The instances of people using the voting machines and getting confirmation of their vote for McCain even though the had selected Obama were never going to be enough to undermine the landslide that would cap this historic victory.

Obama had the groundswell tightly knitted up. Obama fever was so high that one Barbadian woman sought to volunteer at nearby campaign offices every time she visited the US over the past two years.

Obama raised more than US$ 150 M in September alone. Yes, so he changed his mind or went back on his word, depending on who is speaking, to raise funds from private entities rather than the public sector. This allowed him to collect an unlimited amount of money.

He did it by getting people to donate in small amounds of $5 and $10 and $20; a secret that many fund raising entities are now becoming wise to.

I added myself to the Caribbean for Barack Obama Facebook Group, which did, and is still doing, a commendable job of borderline spamming me on the latest news!

I am ashamed to admit that I couldn't say awake that night for having been up since 4:00 a.m. in anticipation but when I awoke at 3:48 a.m. on November 5 or thereabouts I was shocked to see McCain with over 58% versus Obama's 42%!

I went to the loo and came back to hear Obama' acceptance speech. Then it dawned on me, that the complicatedness of US politics had me confused. Initially, as you might have already guessed, I was looking at one of the down south state's results, not the electoral college votes.

I'm just overwhelmed by the win is all I can say. All I can say is Dr. M.L.K.'s dream came through in my lifetime.

Wow!

I am just at a lost for words. History is unfolding right in front of my eyes.

Maybe I will live to be 80+ and toothless and relate to my generations-removed grands and great-grands and tell them that I was in the world when history was created.

My only lament is that I didn't buy that DNC mug I was eying when I was in Denver late in September.

Now I will probably have to pay an arm and a leg and a pound of flesh!

Oh well, I have the memory, the reassurance that my children, and yours, are better poised to inherit a world that is a little bit better than the one their parents lived in.

Congratulations President-Elect, Barack Hussein Obama. History has been created; the story now begun.
